Ebbeling Test Flashcards
Explain what the ebbeling test is
Submaximal test to estimate VO2 max in low risk, non athletic adults aged between 20-59 years
In what situations will the Ebbeling test be appropriate for?
For those who prefer to walk or experience knee pain when running or jogging
How is the warm up done?
Client walks on O% incline and at a speed which brings them between 50-70% of their max HR
What is the SSHR?
The average of the final 30 seconds of the last two minutes at the 5% grade.
**Notec- to achieve SSHR the HR from the last 2 minutes must not differ by more than 5 bpm)
What happens after the warm up in the Ebbelings?
The incline increases to 5%, speed stays the same and continue walking for another 4 minutes.
When do you take the RPE and HR in this test?
At the end of every minute
When is BP taken in the Ebbelings?
At minutes 2 and 4 during the workload and at minutes 1,3 and 5 during recovery
What equation do we use after getting the results from the Ebbelings test?
Estimated VO2 max
What information will we need for the equation at the end of test?
SSHR, speed (mph), age
What do you do of the HR in the last 2 minutes of the test differ by more than 5pm?
Add on another minute to exercise.
What would be the first thing you would do before starting the Ebbelings test?
Estimate the:
- HRM (220-age)
- 50% of HRM
- 70% of HRM
1km = how many miles?
0.62 miles
