Why would you do the 30 second sit to stand test?
Assess lower body strength - and to help client achieve goals
Why is this test good for the older population?
Because it is functional and relates to a clients ability to perform activities of daily living, such as climbing stairs, walking getting out of the car.
What equipment is needed for this test?
43cm Box or chair
Stopwatch
Describe the procedure of this test
Have the box or chair against the wall
Demonstrate to patient -
- Sit erect on the chair/box
- have their feet flat on the floor and arms crossed at the chest.
- Rise to a full stand and then return to a fully seated position.
Time how many repetitions are done in 30 seconds
When do you stop the test?
When the client experiences pain while performing the movement.
