What is the etiology of eating disorders?
There are multiple factors which contribute to this illness, including family history, genetic underpinnings, psychosocial stressors and sociocultural norms.
People need to have these symptoms for at least 3 months before being diagnosed.
What are the proposed psychological causes of eating disorders?
Low self-esteem, a sense of perfectionism and an overvaluation of shape/size.
What are some treatments for anorexia?
It’s crucial to hospitalize them right away, and get them to eat through a peg or tube in order to get them back to health. Then you could use behavior therapy and family therapy in order to decondition them and emphasize relationship of thoughts and feelings to behavior.
What’s the Maudsley model of family therapy?
It brings the entire family togethers and keeps them there. The family eats together, sleeps together, and is observed in order to identify family dynamics perpetuating this behavior.
What are the dangers of CBT?
These individuals have radically different views from anyone else, and when they’re treated like children they end up not respecting the treatment.
