Earth's structure Flashcards
What is the first layer of the Earth and how thick is it?
The crust which is 10-70 km thick
The solid outer part of the Earth
What is the second layer of the Earth and how thick is it?
The mantel is 2800 km thick
Hot Molten rock under the crust
What is the third layer of the Earth and how thick is it?
The outer core is 2250 km thick
The outer center part of the Earth
What is the fourth layer of the Earth and how thick is it?

The inner center part of the Earth
What is the continental crust?
-The part of the crust that is formed by continents.
-It is about 30 km thick.
-It is made up of silica-rich rocks like granite.
-It makes up 40% of the Earth’s crust
What is the oceanic crust?
-The part of the Earth that is formed by oceans.
-It’s less than 10 km thick
-It is made up of magnesium-rich rocks like Basalt.
