Earth And Space Flashcards
Name 1 similarity and 1 difference between the geocentric and heliocentric model.
Similarity: both include earth
Difference: the heliocentric shows that we orbit the sun and that the sun is the middle of the universe whereas in the geocentric shows that we are in the middle of the universe
Give 3 functions of satellites?
Weather To look at planets Earth observation Navigation Telescopes
Why is a risk assessment important to have before going into space?
Because then the astronauts know what to do if something goes wrong and the astronauts can see what things might create a hazard on the way to space.
Give 2 pieces of evidence for the Big Bang theory?
The universe is expanding
Cosmic microwave background radiation
The abundance of different elements in the universe
What did Galileo discover?
Galileo discovered the 4 massive moons of Jupiter.
What is retrograde motion?
Retrograde is an APPARENT change in the movement of the planet in the sky. It is NOT REAL.
What is a natural satellite?
A natural satellite is a moon that orbits a planet and reflects the suns light to the planet.
What is an artificial satellite?
They are human built objects orbiting the earth or other planets.
Give 1 similarity and 1 difference between the geostationary and polar orbits?
Similarity: they both rotate (spin)
Difference: they both spin different ways (they spin on different axis)
