Ears Flashcards
Set very high over the zygomatic arches, they hang down but are very mobile. Triangular shape (in a V), their extremities form a narrow point, never rounded; they are small in relation to the size of the dog. For a medium size dog their length must not go beyond 12 cm (4¾ins). The ear leather is of medium width. Cropped ears are tolerated only in dogs really used as herd dogs (Not legal in Australia).
Maremma Sheepdog
Placed high, erect, height greater than base; sharply pointed, very mobile.
Norwegian Buhund
Small and carried flat to side of head, coated moderately.
Old English Sheepdog
Set slightly below level of skull, V-shaped, pendant, of medium size, covered with long hair. Length of ears about half length of head. Ears do not appear noticeable, even when alert.
Puli
Small, moderately wide at base, placed fairly close together on top of skull. In repose, thrown back; when alert brought forward and carried semi-erect with tips falling forward.
Shetland Sheepdog
Medium size, pointed, pricked, leather hard from base to tip, but fine smooth haired and mobile.
Swedish Vallhund
Erect, proportionately rather large to size of dog. Tips slightly rounded, moderately wide at base and set about 9 cms (3 &1/2; ins) apart. Carried so that tips are slightly wide of straight line drawn from tip of nose through centre of eyes, and set well back so that they can be laid flat along neck.
Welsh Corgi (Cardigan)
Pricked, medium sized, slightly rounded. Line drawn from tip of nose through eye should, if extended, pass through, or close to tip of ear.
Welsh Corgi (Pembroke)
Erect ears, set high, parallel and directed forward; in the shape of an elongated triangle with the tip slightly rounded.
