Ancient architect who wrote during the Roman Empire The Ten Books on Architecture. Basis of Alberti’s design.
Architectural Order
the design style of a façade, and involve a colonnade. Very specific measurements.
Column - Engaged Column
cylindrical structure that holds up a building. Half round column sticking out of the wall is an engaged column.
Pier - Pilaster
Square form of the column. Piers sticking out of the wall are called Pilasters.
Rustication
Rural, ordinary, common. Style of stone carving that creates folksy, simplified look.
Continuous Narrative
Sequential events that are all in the same chronological framework
Relief (Low, Middle, High)
Sculptural form that comes out of a surface. Low is shallow in the background, high practically comes off of the surface

all diagonal lines in the composition must come to one vanishing point
Vanishing Point
coordinating point in a composition that is linear and unified
Allegory
Telling a story outside of itself, or telling a story to symbolize something else.
