push factors- 1572- france had a great massacre which killed 10,000 french protestants. 1685-louis XIV made protestants illegal in france

Huguenots- silk industry affecting the rich; printing press by Johannes Gutenberg in 1440 increased communication, reading became more popular, books production increased, 1500- only 5 printers in England and they were all european, 1535- 2/3 booktraders were european.

A

the dutch- 1630-40’s men worked on the Fen’s, land drainage in home country meant dutch engineers became valuable experts.
1630- cornelius vermuyden (dutch drainage + embankment engineer) invited by charles I to drain Fens, vast area of fertile farmland, straighened rivers, dug ditches, built embankments/sluices; 1642-4000 acres agricultural land

Huguenots- 1694- Bank of England, 10% of capital provided by 123 Huguenots, 7/25 directors were huguenots, they knew about investment/ national debt
