Neonatal jaundice

  • Definition = total serum bilirubin (SBR) >85µmol/l
  • Problem SBR >400 may cause kernicterus
  • Physiological jaundice (breakdown of RBCs with shortened lifespan) after 24 hours from birth
  • Treat with phototherapy
