When do Muslims believe life begins?
Conception– predestination, your life is predicted. 120 days (insoulment) you become yourself.
When do Hindus believe life begins?
Conception– cycle of life (samsara). When someone dies a new life starts.
What is pro choice(abortion rights)
A woman’s right to choose
- Life does not start until birth– the woman is already a person with greater rights.
- the risk to the mothers health outweighs the babies
- Circumstances should be considered
- if abortion becomes illegal, dangerous abortions will begin
What is pro life(SPUC)
Presents you with greater choice- adoption etc. Pro choice is not a choice, it’s an end.
- rejoice life
- it is murder-there is a life in the womb
- mental health may be affected by abortion- later in life
- murder is illegal- abortion should be
- if a mother needs to have treatment that may kill her child, she is allowed to have the treatment
What are the catholic views?
“Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception; abortion and infanticide are the most abominable of crimes”
What are the Protestant views?
“We affirm that every human life, created in the divine image, is unique…. We therefore believe that abortion is an evil….. In an imperfect world the ‘right’ choice is sometimes the lesser of two evils” (in the case of rape, severe handicap, mental/ physical health of mother is at risk)
What is the week abortion is legal?
Up to 24 weeks (premature babies can be born now and have a good chance of survival)
When do Christians believe life begins?
Conception– God has created now and there is a unique life. It is valuable.
What are some alternatives to abortion?
Adoption, fostering
Why isn’t adoption/ fostering a good option?
The average age of adoption is 3 years 10 months
Siblings are separated
Children may not find a home
Move around a lot
It takes around 2 years 7 months for a child to be adopted
Why is adoption a good option?
The child is wanted and would be welcome and safe with their new family

Life is sacred because it is god-given

What are some alternatives to abortion?
Fostering, adoption
Why should the mother be considered when deciding abortion?
She has sole decision under UK law
It is her body that will be put under strain and risk
The earlier the abortion occurs, the safer the procedure- if the law changed and allowed other people to have a say, it would take longer to obtain an abortion
Why should the unborn child be considered when deciding an abortion?
Has the most to lose
Can’t speak for itself
Unique individual- they could grow to cure cancer
