What is mercantalism
Mercantilism was an economic system of trade that spanned from the 16th century to the 18th century. Mercantilism was based on the idea that a nation’s wealth and power were best served by increasing exports and so involved increasing trade.

- government controlled international trade by granting monopolies (like HBC)
- focus on exploiting natural resources of colonies
- limited international trade (only with colonies and mother country)
- high levels of government regulations
- individuals were controlled and had little to no rights
- made the monarchy and allies rich
what was a negative effect that came from mercantalism?
the amount of competition that came from mercantalism created tensions between people/rulers

a time where new inventions occured and a whole new revolution was invented
