Early development of the mesoderm Flashcards
What does the paraxial mesoderm develop into?
Muscle bone (somites) + dermis
What does the intermediate mesoderm develop into?
Gonads and kidneys (urogenital system)
What does the lateral plates of the mesoderm develop into?
The cardiovascular system, somatic and splanchnic mesoderm
What are somites?
Blocks of paraxial mesodermic tissue which go onto develop into muscle and bone
When do the first pair of somites form?
Day 20
What do dermomytomes develop into?
Derived from somites; they develop into skeletal muscle and connective tissue
What do sclerotomes develop into?
Derived from somites; they develop into bones and connective tissue
What do dermatomes develop into?
The dermis of the skin
What are the two lateral plates of mesoderm?
Splanchnic and somatic
What does the splanchnic mesoderm form?
Visceral serous membrane - in contact with the endoderm
What does the somatic mesoderm form?
Parietal serous membrane - in contact with the ectoderm
Which germ layer forms the parietal peritoneal layer?
Lateral plate - somatic mesoderm
Which germ layer forms the visceral peritoneum?
Lateral plate - splanchnic mesoderm
Where does the dermis originate from?
The paraxial mesoderm
Where do the muscles and bones originate from?
The paraxial mesoderm
