What is stage 1?
A
Indiscriminate/asocial attachment

What happens in stage 1?
A
- From birth until about 2 months old infants produce similar responses to all objects (animate and inanimate)
- Towards the end of this period infants begin to show a greater preference for social stimuli (smiling and being around people)
- During this time reciprocity and interactional synchrony play apart in the infant forming relationships with others

The beginnings of attachment/indiscriminate

What happens in stage 2?
A
- Around the age of 2-7 months (4 ish) infant becomes more social
- Prefer human company
- Develop general sociability (distinguish between unfamiliar and familiar people)
- No stranger anxiety yet and can be comforted by most people

- By 7 months old infants begin to show separation anxiety
- They show joy at reunion with their primary attachment figure
