Ear Flashcards
Most common site of ear infections.
Mastoid Air Cells
What muscles opens the auditory tube and allows ears to pop?
Tensor Veli Palatini
WHat muscle pulls apart the incus and malleus when sudden, loud noises occur? (prevents transfer of damaging vibrations)
Tensor tympani
What nerve innervates Tensor Veli Palatini and Tensor Tympani?
V3 Mandibular
What is the purpose of the bony structures of the middle ear?
To conduct vibrations from the tympanic membrane to the window of the cochlea, causing inner ear fluids to vibrate = sound perception.
What part of the ear contains wax, glands, and had?
The lateral 1/3 near the external auditory meatus.
What structure forms the roof of the tympanic cavity? (TEST…Park loved this in lecture.)
Tegmen Tympani
What nerve runs through the middle ear?
Chordae Tympani (CN VII)
What fissure does the chordae tympani nerve run in? (LAB…Park loves it)
Petrotympanic fissure.
Describe the Intrapetrous course of VII.
Enters the Internal Auditory Meatus, turns posteriorly in skull, runs through the middle cranial fossa, and out the stylomastoid foramen.
