(E) Inertia Navigation System Flashcards
1
Q
Disadvantages of Radio Navigation System (RNS)
A
Require extensive network of ground stations
Subjected to man-made and natural interference
2
Q
Advantage of Inertia Navigation System (INS)
A
Self-Contained
Insensitive to acceleration errors
3
Q
INS provides information on?
A
Position Velocity Heading Course Course Deviation
4
Q
Ring Laser ‘Gyro’s have no rotating parts, hence they are?
A
more reliable, easier to maintain, and have a low life-cycle cost.
5
Q
Accelerometers
A
- Movement of A/C causes displacement from Null point of the pendulum
- Error signal current applied to torque ‘motor’ to restore to nll
- Current is a function for A/C acceleration > Integrated to find Velocity/Distance
6
Q
Transport Rate
A
Is the movement of A/C platform parallel to Earth’s surface, must be compensated for. As earth rotates at 15.04 degree/h, the Rotation Rate is taken into account and compensated for as well.
7
Q
RLGs: Integrated platform
A
- 3 Laser Gyros with the accelerometers mounted on a platform = Inertial Sensor Assembly
- The sensors outputs fed to Navigation computer, which corrects for errors
- The final processed data gives Position, Velocity, Attitude, Acceleration and movement rates
