Q

Ring Laser ‘Gyro’s have no rotating parts, hence they are?

A

more reliable, easier to maintain, and have a low life-cycle cost.

Q

Accelerometers

A
  • Movement of A/C causes displacement from Null point of the pendulum
  • Error signal current applied to torque ‘motor’ to restore to nll
  • Current is a function for A/C acceleration > Integrated to find Velocity/Distance

Q

Transport Rate

A

Is the movement of A/C platform parallel to Earth’s surface, must be compensated for. As earth rotates at 15.04 degree/h, the Rotation Rate is taken into account and compensated for as well.

Q

RLGs: Integrated platform

A
  • 3 Laser Gyros with the accelerometers mounted on a platform = Inertial Sensor Assembly
  • The sensors outputs fed to Navigation computer, which corrects for errors
  • The final processed data gives Position, Velocity, Attitude, Acceleration and movement rates
