E-175 Systems Written Flashcards
What is indicated by the yellow LED light next to the IDG switch?
IDG high oil temp or low oil pressure
What do the transformer rectifier units do?
Convert 115 VAC to 28 VDC
How long will the batteries last if all electrical is lost?
10 minutes under normal operations
In flight what will happen if both IDGs crap out?
RAT will automatically deploy
What does the RAT power?
AC essential bus
Besides the RAT, are there any other sources of emergency AC power?
AC essential bus, powered by the inverter
Contains both engine A excites
When would we use the DC GPU?
To start the APU when batt temp is lower than -20C or voltage is below 22.5
What powers the primary ejector pumps?
Motive flow from the EDP
How many scavenge pumps are there? What is their purpose?
3 per side
They keep the collector box full and the pumps submerged
What is the purpose of the collector box?
They keep the pumps submerged and ensure fuel flow to the engines
When is the fuel imbalance EICAS message displayed?
800 pound imbalance
If the left fuel tank is low, where should the X-feed switch be placed?
Low-1
Where does the APU normally get its fuel?
Normally from the right fuel tank unless you X-feed
What is the electrical source for the engine fire bottles?
Both hot battery busses
What happens when you push the fire test button?
Fire bell, triple chime, both fire handles light up, fwd and aft cargo fire buttons, APU fire button, red stripe in APU emergency stop button, both master warning lights, reverse video fire indications in both ITT gauges, EICAS fire messages for both engines, both cargo smoke messages, and APU
How many cargo fire bottles are there?
Two
Are the two cargo fire bottles different?
Yes, one is a high rate bottle and the other is a low rate bottle
Are the cargo fire bottles intended for specific bays?
No, they can be used for either
Can you use one cargo fire bottle in one bay and the other in the other bay?
No
How many engine fire bottles are there?
Two
Can both engine fire bottles be used in one engine? For one engine and then the other?
Yes and yes
T/F
To shoot the fire bottle in the #1 engine you only PULL the handle
False
T/F
If the APU catches fire on the ground it will automatically shut down
True, however it will not in the air
T/F
APU fire bottle will automatically fire one minute after detecting a fire
False
Explain the sequence of events if there is smoke in the FWD cargo bay
If smoke is detected by only one fire detector it will automatically shut off the recirculation fan and close the outflow valve and monitor for 45 seconds before giving a cockpit annunciation
What systems use hydraulics?
Elevators, rudder, ailerons, spoilers, landing gear, nose wheel steering, and thrust reversers
What does the PTU do?
Uses hydraulic energy from system one to drive a pump in system two to assist in landing gear operation
How much pressure does the hydraulic system run on?
3,000 PSI
How can the airplane be steered for single engine taxi?
Electric pump 2 kicks on automatically when the parking brake is released providing power for the steering and inboard brakes
With only the left engine operating, how long does the #2 hydraulic electric pump stay on after setting the parking brake?
6 minutes
When do the unloader and limiter valve on hydraulic system 3 operate?
Upon RAT deployment
The unloader only operates during RAT spin up, the limiter stays on the entire time
If an IDG shits the bed or is turned off will we lose any busses?
No, bus tie contacts will x-feed
What does pushing the hydraulic engine pump shutoff button do?
Closes the SOV and shuts off fluid from the reservoir to the pump
If electric hydraulic pumps are set to auto, when do they turn on in flight?
Flaps greater than 0, or when EDP fails
What is the maximum single PACK altitude?
FL310
What is the bleed air priority in flight?
Onside, cross side, APU
What are the components of the cabin pressurization system?
Controller, outflow valve, static port, positive pressure valve, negative pressure relief valve
What happens when the cabin pressure dump button is pushed?
Packs off, recirculation fans off, cabin climb to 12,400’ at 2,000 ft/min
When does the emergency ram air valve open?
When both packs are commanded off, and the aircraft is in flight below FL250
What is the max cabin differential pressure?
8.77 PSI
What is heated by the bleed air anti ice?
Outer three wing slats, and engine cowls
If Ref A/I is selected to OFF on the MCDU, when does it turn on in flight?
1700’ RA or 2 mins, which ever happens first
After icing conditions are left, how long will the ice protection stay on?
5 minutes
If one ice detector is inop, can the other still operate the system?
Yes, there are two for redundancy
When are the smart probes heated?
After engine start
Can the smart probes be turned on manually before engine start?
Yes, through the switch
What is ATTCS?
Automatic takeoff thrust control system
It automatically gives reserve thrust if needed
Does the engine FADEC give protection for hot start, hung start, or no light off?
Yes, only on the ground
What is the only primary flight control surface(s) not fly by wire?
Only the ailerons
What is the priority of the trim system?
Backup panel, Capt, FO, autopilot
With RAT deployed does the stab trim still work?
Yes, at half speed
With RAT deployed will the slats and flaps still work?
Yes, at half speed
For flight controls to be operated in normal mode, what two things need to work?
The flight control module (FCM) for higher level functions, and the ACE
If the FCM loses airspeed input will it still work?
No, it will go into direct mode
When batteries are first turned on, what works?
2 and 3 screens, FO side MCDU, Capt CCD, clock, IESS, whisky compass light, and radios
