can perceive and name letters, can sometimes identify word if spell it out first (length effect)
1) Multiple Oral Reading(Moyer)
- force reading aloud of text at sentence level, so context helps facilitate prediction of words leading to more effective reading
2) Cross Modality Curing: aid letter identification using different modality (kinesthetic cue to hand)
3) Brief Exposure: present words very quikcly so letter-by-letter reading is NOT possible
