Dynamics Flashcards
What does Newton’s first law state?
When the resultant force is 0 N, a body will remain stationary or continue moving with a constant velocity.
What does Newton’s third law state?
If body A exerts a force on body B, then body B exerts an equal and opposite force on body A.
How is momentum defined and what is its equation?
Momentum (p) is equal to an object’s mass (m) multiplied by its velocity (v), measured in kg·m/s. Equation: p = mv
What is the principle of conservation of momentum?
The sum of the momenta of bodies in a system remains constant, even if forces act between them, provided there is no external resultant force.
What is an inelastic collision?
An inelastic collision is one in which kinetic energy is lost.
What characterizes an elastic collision?
In an elastic collision, the kinetic energy before and after the collision remains equal.
