Dynamic Equillibrium Flashcards
What is a reversible reaction?
A reversible reaction is a reaction that occurs in both a forward and reverse direction.
When does dynamic equilibrium occur?
Dynamic equilibrium occurs in a closed system when there is a reversible reaction
What is equilibrium?
Equilibrium- the point in a reversible reaction where the forward and reverse rates of a reaction are equal. Therefore the amounts of products and reactants are equal.
What is Châtelier’s principle?
Equilibrium will shift to reduce change. If conditions change the reaction will do everything it can to counteract the change.
What happens to the position of equilibrium if pressure of a gas increases?
It shifts in the direction with fewer gas molecules and fewer molecules in the same space means lower pressure.
What happens to the position of equilibrium when there is an increase in concentration?
It shifts in the direction that uses up the added substance and using up substances lowers concentration.
What happens to the position of equilibrium when there is an increase in temperature?
It shifts in the direction that is endothermic as endothermic reactions lower the temperature.
When happens to the position of equilibrium when using a catalyst?
It doesn’t change as catalysts speed up reactions but don’t affect direction.
