dural venous sinuses 🔴temination Flashcards
Superior Sagittal Sinus (S.S.S.)
At the internal occipital protuberance, it deviates to one or the other side (usually the right).
• It continuous with the corresponding transverse sinus. Termination
• At the internal occipital protuberance, it is dilated to form the confluence of the sinuses.
Inferior Sagittal Sinus
Terminates at the middle of tentorial notch.
â–ª To join the great cerebral vein of Galen to form the
straight sinus.
Straight Sinus
Terminates at the level of internal occipital protuberance
â–ª Either:
1. Turns to the left to continue as left transverse sinus. OR 2. Fuses with the S.S.S. to form venous confluent.
Occipital Sinus
In sigmoid sinus either in one side or both sides.
Sphenopareital Sinus
Terminates at into the anterior part of the
cavernous sinus.
Cavernous Sinus
Terminates at the apex of petrous part of
temporal bone.
➢ Where it divides into:
1) Superior petrosal sinus. 2) Inferior petrosal sinus.
Superior Petrosal Sinus
Ends at the junction of the transverse sinus
and the sigmoid sinus.
Inferior Petrosal Sinus
Passes through jugular foramen
â–ª Ends in the upper part of the internal jugular vein,
just below the skull.
Transverse Sinus
Continues as sigmoid sinus.
Sigmoid Sinus
â–ª At jugular foramen.
â–ª Continues as Internal jugular vein.
