Why does dumping syndrome occur?
A
Dumping syndrome occurs, especially sugar moves too quickly from stomach to the small intestine which causes hyperglycemia as the small intestine absorbs too much sugar. the pancreas releases insulin which causes hypoglycemia

A
symptoms occur 10-90 minutes after eating

What are clinical manifestations of dumping syndrome?
A
syncope, diaphoresis, palpitations, and dizziness

what type of nutrition should a patient with dumping syndrome follow?
A
- high protein, high fat, low fiber, and low to moderate fat
- avoid sugar to avoid hypo/hyperglycemia
- small, frequent meals
- no fluids 1 hour before and after meals

how can a patient help slow absorption if they have dumping syndrome?
A
lie down after a meal to slow down absorption
