Dugga 3 - Cholinergic agents Flashcards
What two compounds does the biosynthesis of AcH consist of?
Choline and acetyl conenzyme A (SCoA). This reaction is catalyzed by choline aceyyltransferase.
Does cholinergic agents relate directrly to noradrenaline (NA) receptors?
No cholinergic agents targets acetylcholine receptors. Noradrenaline receptors are targeted with adrenergic agents.
What type of ion channel is opened upon arrival of nerve signal?
Calcium ion channels
What is an cholinergic receptor?
A receptor which is susceptible/recognises acetylcholine
Where is Acetylcholinesterase located?
On the postsynaptic neuron. The enzyme catalyzes hydrolysis of acetylcholine. Choline is resued by the presynaptic neuron to regenerate the neurotransmitter (biosynthesis of acetylcholine).
Where is the cholinergic (autoreceptor) receptor located?
On the terminus of the presynaptic neuron. Their purpose is to locally control the signal transmission.
When AcH is released into the synaptic cleft, some will bind to the autoreceptor and stop/limit further release of AcH.
