Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
A. Presence of obsessions, compulsions, or both.
B. Obsessions/compulsions are time consuming (more than 1 hour per day) or cause distress/impairment in functioning.
**Obsessions: unwanted, intrusive thoughts/images experienced repeatedly, person tries to counteract with with other thoughts or actions
**Compulsions: repetitive behaviors or mental acts that are aimed to reduce the distress from obsessions.
Body Dysmorphic Disorder
A. Preoccupation with perceived defect that others cannot observe.
B. Performs repetitive behaviors or mental acts in response to the concern
Trichotillomania
A. Repetitive pulling out one’s own hair, resulting in hair loss.
B. The person has made repeated attempts to stop
Excoriation
A. Repetitive skin picking resulting in skin lesions.
B. The person has made repeated attempts to stop
Treatment of OCD
High dose SSRI and Therapy (exposure/response prevention)
Somatic Symptom Disorder
A. One or more Somatic Sx
B. Excessive thoughts/feelings/behaviors related to the somatic Sx, including one of the following: 1. disproportionate belief about he seriousness of Sx, 2. persistently high levels of anxiety about Sx, 3. excessive time and energy devoted to these health concerns.
C. State of being symptomatic lasts more than 6 months
Illness Anxiety Disorder
A. Preoccupation with having a serious illness
B. Somatic Sx are not present or are mild
C. High level of anxiety about health
D. Performs excessive health related behaviors or exhibits maladaptive avoidance
E. Lasts for at least 6 months
Conversion Disorder
A. Symptom(s) of altered voluntary motor or sensory function
B. No medical explanation
Factitious Disorder
A. Falsification of physical or psychological symptoms
B. Presents themselves as ill, impaired or injured.
C. Behavior is evident in the absence of obvious rewards
*** can also present as “imposed by another” if you present another individual as ill.
Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder
A. Frequent outbursts verbally or behaviorally that are out of proportion
B. Occurs 3 or more times per week
C. Mood in between outbursts is irritable/angry
D. Lasts 12 months with no more than a 3 month period without outbursts
E. Diagnosed between age 6 and 18, with onset before age 10
Major Depression
A. Five (or more) of the following symptoms present for a 2 week period: Depressed/irritable mood, no interest or pleasure in activities, weight changes, sleep changes, agitation, fatigue, worthlessness, difficulty concentrating, suicidal ideation
B. never been manic or hypomanic episode
Dysthymia (Persistent Depressive Disorder)
A. Depressed mood for 2 years (one year in children)
B. While depressed, two (or more) of the following are present: appetite changes, sleep changes, low energy, low self-esteem, poor concentration, feelings of hopelessness
C. not without symptoms for more than 2 months
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
A. Symptoms present for majority of menstrual cycles, at least 5 Sx manifest during final week before menses, Sx minimal the week after menses.
B. At least one of the symptoms: mood swings, emotional sensitivity, irritability, interpersonal friction, depressed mood, anxiety, emotional agitation
C. at least one of the symptoms (totaling 5): decreased interest in activities, difficulty focusing, lethargy, changes in eating, changes in sleeping, overwhelmed
Adjustment Disorder
A. Symptoms develop within 3 months of identified stressor
B. Symptoms create marked distress or impairment
C. Not normal bereavement
D. Symptoms endure no more than 6 months
Reactive Attachment Disorder
Before age 5 and after 9 months:
A. pattern of emotionally withdrawn behavior towards caregivers manifested by (does not seek or respond to comfort when distressed)
B. Two of the following: minimal social responsiveness, minimal positive affect, periods of sadness/irritability/fear during interaction with caregivers
C. Child has experienced patterns of insufficient care by neglect of emotional care, frequent changes in caregivers, raised in settings that limit attachment to caretakers.
PTSD
A. Exposure to actual or threatened death, injury or sexual violence by either directly experiencing it, witnessing it, becoming aware of close friends or family experiencing it, or repeated exposure to details. B. At least one intrusion symptom C. Avoidance of stimuli D. two Negative alterations in cognition E. two arousal/reactivity symptoms F. Sx last over one month
Acute Stress Disorder
Same criteria as PTSD, except symptoms present for 3 days to one month. Must have 9 of the criteria met.
Schizoid Personality Disorder
A. pattern of detachment from social relationships and restricted range of emotions in interpersonal settings
B. Four or more of the following: does not desire close relationships, choses solitary activities, little interest in sex, no pleasure in activities, lacks close friends, indifferent to opinions of others, flat affect
Paranoid Personality Disorder
A. Pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others, their motives are malevolent.
B. Four or more of the following: suspects that others of harming or deceiving, preoccupied by doubts of loyalty, reluctant to confide in others, interprets hidden meanings in people’s remarks, bears grudges, perceives attacks on their character, suspicious about fidelity
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
A. Repeated instances of lacking social or interpersonal skills and inability to maintain close relationships.
B. Five or more perceptual distortions: Ideas of reference, odd beliefs/magical thinking, bodily illusions, odd thinking and speech, paranoid ideation, constricted affect, appearance that is odd, lack close friends, social anxiety.
Antisocial Personality Disorder
A. Pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others since age 15.
B. Three or more of the following: unlawful behaviors, deceitfulness, Impulsivity, irritability and aggressiveness, disregard for safety of self and others, irresponsibility, lack of remorse.
C. Diagnosed only at 18 years or older
D. Meet criteria for conduct disorder
Borderline Personality Disorder
A. Pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, affects.
B. Marked impulsivity with 5 or more: Frantically avoid real or imagined abandonment, alternating between extreames of idealization and devaluation, unstable self-image, impulsive in areas that are self damaging, suicidal behaviors or gestures, reactivity of mood, feelings of emptiness, difficultly controlling anger, dissociative or stress related paranoia,
