What does “other specified” mean?
What does “unspecified” mean?
Other specified: used when SW provides reason why the condition does not qualify for specific diagnosis (e.g., short duration)
Unspecified: used when additional explanation is provided as to why the disorder does not meet the usual criteria
What are the base diagnostic criteria for Bipolar I, II and cyclothymia?
Bipolar I
- Mania/manic episode required (7 days or longer)
- MDD can occur but not required
- Usually requires hospitalization
Bipolar II
- Hypomania (4 days or longer) + MDD (one episode at least)
Cyclothymia
- less severe bipolar II (symptoms for 1 year or more for kids and 2 years or more for adults)
What are the base diagnostic criteria for brief psychotic disorder, schizophreniform, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective?
All can experience delusions, hallucinations, paranoia
Brief psychotic disorder
- occurring less than 1 month
Schizophreniform
- more than 1 month, less than 6 months
Schizophrenia
- more than 6 months
Schizoaffective
- mix of schizophrenia symptoms and mood disorder symptoms (e.g., depression, mania, and/or hypomania)
