Ego-Syntonic
Something the client is aware of and does not like (such as depression or anxiety) and relates to how an individual experience their disorder
Ego-Dystonic
A disorder that is characterized by rational suspicions and mistrust of others, constantly suspecting that others are trying to harm or deceive them, preoccupied of thoughts of others not being loyal, difficulty with friendships, read into messages and remarks from others as anything against them, holds grudges against others, often has perceived judgements, and the world is hostile and always against them
Paranoid Personality Disorder
A disorder when a person experiences bizarre and non-bizarre delusions, nothing else
Delusional Disorder
A disorder with a lack of interest in social relationships, loners, no point in being with others, withdrawn, and no belief or trust, common with depression
Schizoid Personality Disorder
A disorder that involves lonely individuals, they want to connect with others but are socially inhibited, very sensitive, feel like others won’t like them, and avoid social interactions out of fear of rejection
Avoidant Personality Disorder
A disorder that is characterized by odd behaviors and thinking, people who believe in aliens, think news is directed to them, have magical thinking like a sixth sense, bizarre fantasies, dress weird, lack of friends, and have no psychotic episodes
Pre-curse to Schizophrenia
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
A disorder with a pervasive pattern and disregard for others, law breaking behaviors, repetitive lying, impulsive, aggressive, lack of remorse, mistreat others, and lack of safety
Evidence of conduct disorder prior to age 15 and must be at least 18 years or older
Antisocial Personality Disorder
A disorder with a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, lack of empathy, not understanding of what others think or feel, can be rude to others and has no impact to them, exaggerate achievements, fantasies of success and power, think they are special and unique, get into rage if challenged, and sense of entitlement
Common in perpetrators of domestic violence
Narcissistic Personality Disorder
This disorder is known for instability in relationships, black-and-white thinking, like you one minute then hate you another minute, frantic fear of imagined or real abandonment, do not want to be rejected, idolize therapist at first but then think you are awful, identity disturbances of sense of self and relationships with others, mood instability, feelings of emptiness and rage and difficulty controlling it, hard to keep jobs, and recurrent suicidal behaviors and gestures
Borderline Personality Disorder
A disorder with pervasive attention seeking behaviors, wants to be center of attention, known for seductive behaviors, dress slutty, rapid shifting and shallow emotions, physical appearance is more important to them, and very dramatic
Histrionic Personality Disorder
A disorder when a person who has difficulty making decisions without advice or reassurance of other people, need others to take responsibility for their life, hard time disagreeing with others due to fear of loss or disapproval of others, need constant support, hard time doing things on own, lack of confidence, feel helpless when alone, and quite easy going
