Drugs that Modify the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone Axis Flashcards
1
Q
Angiotensin receptor antagonists
A
AT2 interacts with both the AT1 and AT2 receptor…we are interested in the AT1 receptor…this is where the ARBs block
2
Q
Indications for ACEIs and ARBs
A
Heart fiailure and HTN
3
Q
Cuations of ACEIs and ARBs
A
Pregnancy
4
Q
Side effects of ACEIs
A
Persistant cough…blockage of bradykinin degradation can lead to cough
5
Q
Side effects of both ACEIs and AT1 receptor antagonist
A
Hyperkalemia due to inhibition of aldosterone secretion
Angiodedema
Loss of taste
Hypotension
6
Q
Aliskerin
A
Binds to active site of renin, therefore levels of AT2 are decreased
Can be used alone or with others for HTN
7
Q
Aliskerin contraindciations
A
Don’t combine with ARBs or ACEIs in diabetic patients
