Drugs Flashcards
Digoxin use?
Heart Failure
Arrhythmia
Digoxin method of action
Cardiac Glycoside and inhibits Na/K ATPase pump increasing force of cardiac contraction
Losartan use?
Hypertension and when ACEinhibitors are unsuitable
Losartan method of action
Blocks angiotensin II receptors causing vasodilation, which reducing vasopressin, which decreases aldosterone deducing BP
Furosemide use?
Edema
Congestive heart failure
Resistant hypertension
Furosemide method of action?
Loop diuretic and inhibits electrolyte re-absorption in ascending limb in loop of henle and in distal tubules. increases sodium and hydrogen excretion.
Simvastatin use
Hyperlipidaemia
Hypercholesterolaemia
Simvastatin method of action
Competitive inhibitor of HMG-COa reductase, which reduces cholesterol synthesis
Spironolactone use
Edema
Ascites
Congestive heart failure
Nephrotic syndrome
Spironolactone method of action
Competes for aldosterone receptors in the cortical collecting duct which decreases reabsorption of sodium and water, while decreasing potassium secretion
Amiodarone use
Arrhythmias
Paroxysal supraventricul, nodal and ventricular tachycardia
Atrial fibrillation and flutter
