Licit drugs
A drug that is acceptable by law expect under certain circumstances. Including, alcohol, caffeine, tobacco
Drugs?
Any substance which when taken into the body alters its functions physically or psychologically excluding food and oxygen
Illicit drugs
A drug that is not legal to use, possess or produce. Include drugs, cannabis etc
Stimulant
Speeds up messages from the Central nervous system to the rest of the body. increases heart rate, blood pressure and and body temperature
Depressant drugs
Slows down the messages from the central nervous system to the rest of the body. They will initially reduce inhibitions that may eventually cause unconsciousness. Eg: alcohol cannabis Heroin
Hallucinogen drugs
Effects A person’s perception what’s going on. They can distort a persons, see hear, touch, EG: Ecstasy cannabis LSD and magic mushrooms
Cocaine
Stimulant
Form: White powder, crystals
Consumed: snorted where it is absorbed into bloodstream
Immediate: feeling of Euphoria, sense of wellbeing, confidence
Long term: depression, anxiety, cough, eating disorders
Amphetamines (Stimulant)
Form: powder, tablets, crystal
Immediate effects: headaches, increased breathing, euphoria
Long term: malnutrition, depression,heart attack, reduced immune system, kidney failure
Ecstasy (stimulant, produces hallucinogen effects)
Other names: XTC, eccy
Form: Tablet, imprinted with logos
Short term: aggression, heart rate, increased blood pressure, confidence
Long term: damage to brain, lack in sleep, infections, depression
Heroin (depressant)
Other names: smack, dope, gear
Form: powder, broken rock
Taken: injected
Short term: confusion, drowsiness, reduced appetite, decreased heart rate
Long term: dependence, brain damage, risk of HIV, hep c, infections
