Acetaminophen Indications
Mild to moderate pain
Acetaminophen contraindications
-Hypersensitivity
-Severe hepatic liver impairment or active liver disease
-Given in past 4hrs or at daily maximum (4000mg)
-if overdose is suspected
Acetaminophen dosage
500-1000mg PO every 4hrs.
(Patients with liver disease max dose is 2000mg)
ASA indications
Chest pain or signs/symptoms of cardiac ischemia
ASA Contraindications
-Hypersensitivity
-bronchospasm or respiratory reaction from ASA or NSAIDS
-active/recent bleeding or ulcers
-Peds patient with viral illness
CAUTIONS
-recent surgery
-pregnancy
-taking anticoagulants
ASA dosage
162mg PO (chewed and swallowed)
Epinephrine indication
Anaphylaxis
Epinephrine contraindications
None
Epinephrine dosage
0.5mg IM every 5 mins. Repeat 3 times if needed
Glucagon indications
Hypoglycemia
Glucagon contraindications
-Hypersensitivity
-insulinoma
-pheochromocytoma
-IN glucagon not for 4yrs and under
Glucagon dosage
1mg IM or 3mg IN — clinicall to administer second doses
Ibuprofen indications
Mild to moderate pain
Ibuprofen contraindications
-Hypersensitivity
-active GI hemorrhage or ulcers
-pregnancy
-renal dysfunction
-anticoagulants
Ibuprofen dosages
300-400mg PO
May repeat every 4-6hrs. Max dose is 1200mg
Methoxyflurane (Penthrox) indications
Moderate to severe pain - must be conscious to self admin.
Mehtoxyflurane (Penthrox) contraindications
C.H.E.C.K.
-Cardiac instability or respiratory depression
-Hypersensitivity
-Established malignant hypothermia
-Consciousness
-Kidneys
+ Under 18, pregnant/intended pregnancy or breastfeeding
-tetracycline
-muscular dystrophy
Methoxyflurane (Penthrox) dosages
3ml self admin. Max of 6ml. May repeat after 20 mins
Naloxone indications
Reversal of respiratory depression in suspected narcotic intoxication
Naloxone contraindications
Allergy or hypersensitivity
Naloxone dosages
0.4mg IM, 0.4mg IM, 0.8mg IM, 2mg IM
Every 3 minutes as required. Clinicall for more dosages
Nitroglycerin indications
Chest pain suggestive of acute coronary syndrome
Nitroglycerin contraindications
-Hypersensitivity
-Boner pills (viagra & levitra in last 24hrs
Cialis in last 48hrs)
-Anemia
-Pericardial issues
-Hypovolemia or hypotension
-documented right sided acute MI
-systolic BP under 110mmHg
-HR less than 50 or more than 150
Nitroglycerin dosages
0.4mg SL every 3-5mins up to 3 times.
-must call clinical prior to admin if patient has no prior prescription or for more than 3 doses
-Verify systolic BP and HR before every dose
Nitrous Oxide indications
Self-administered relief from moderate to severe pain suggestive
Nitrous Oxide contraindications
P.A.I.N.D.I.E. S.A.D.F.C.
-pneumothorax
-air embolism
-inhalation injury
-nitroglycerin in last 5 mins
-decompression sickness
-inability to comply
-enclosed spaces
-shock
-abdominal distension
-depressant drugs
-facial injuries
-COPD

Self admin to effect
Salbutamol indications
Bronchospasm
Salbutamol contraindications
Hypersensitivity
Salbutamol dosages
-4x100mg via MDI, repeat as required
-5mg nebulized, repeat as necessary
