intensify neural activity and bodily function
Caffeine
stimulant; increases alertness, get rid of headaches, and improve metabolic rate
Cocaine
stimulant; block reuptake from happening causing a increase in seretonin and dopamine (increasing mood)
Depressants
chemicals that reduce neural activity and functioning of body
Alcohol
depressant; slows neural processing, reduces memory formation, and impairs self-control
Hallucinogens
can cause hallucinations and make people and make people see things that other cannot
Marijuana
hallucinogens; binds with cannabinoid receptors, impaires coordination, perception and reaction time
Opioids
highly addictive depressants
Heroine
opioid; depresses nervous system activity, reducing anxiety and pain
Tolerance
if you use the drug so much you become immune and need more of the drug to get the desired high
Addiction/Dependence
the body craves the drug and can be a way for people to cope with daily life
Withdrawal symptoms
painful symptoms of the body re-adjusting to the absence of drugs
