Class:
Analgesic, antipyretic

Description:
Used for pain and fever. No anti-inflammatory properties. Works on CNS to increase pain threshold. Effects heat regulating centers resulting in peripheral vasodilation, sweating, and heat dissipation

Onset and Duration:
PO onset 10-30min, duration 3-4hrs
IV onset 3-5min, duration 4-6hrs

Indications:
Fever
Mild to moderate pain

Contraindications:
Hypersensivity
Hepatic impairment
Renal impairment (long term)
Hypovolemia
Cronic alcohol use

Adverse reactions:
Nausea/ vomiting
Rash
Headache
Anemia
Thrombocytopenia (Low platelet count)

Drug interactions:
Avoid use with ethanol, isoniazid, OTC drugs containing acetaminophen

How Supplied:
Capsule: 235mg, 500mg
Tablet: 325mg, 500mg, 650mg
Suspensions: 20mg/5ml, 160mg/5ml
Solution: 160mg/5ml, 500mg/15ml

Dose and administration:
Adult 50kg+
PO: 325-1000mg every 4-6hr max 4000mg per day
Infant/ Child: 10-15mh/kg 4-6hrs
Adult 50kg+
IV: 1000mg 6hrs, 650mg 4hr, max daily 4000mg

15mg/kg 6hr, 12.5mg/kg 4hr max daily 75mg/kgn

Special Considerations:
Pregnancy: Limited risk to fetus if used short term
Harmless at low doses, Hepatotoxic if OD, Cronic dosage can decrease renal/ hepatic function
