What is a depressant
Slow functioning of nervous systems, e.g. alcohol or cannabis
What are the effects of depressants
Slowed speech, too much = stops functioning, fatigue, slow reactions and slow breathing.
What is a stimulant?
Increases functioning, e.g. caffeine or tobacco.
What are effects of a stimulant?
Rushed speech, risk of violence, increase in heart rate, loss of appetite and energy increase.
What is a hallucinogen?
It alters the person’s perception of reality. They may see, hear, feel and taste different things.
What is caffeine?
It is a stimulant drug, which is found in drinks such as coffee, coke and tea.
What are short term effects of caffeine?
Increased energy + alertness, increased body temperature, frequency (urinating), increased heart rate, headaches, sweating, shaking / trembling & nausea.
What are long term effects of caffeine?
Restlessness, Nervousness, anxiety, changes in sleep patterns, stomach problems, muscle twitches and irregular rapid heart rates.
