Drug Function Flashcards
Acetaminophen Class
Antipyretic and analgesic.
Mild anti-inflammatory
Acetaminophen Action
Rapidly absorbed through GI tract. Believed to raise pain threshold
Acetaminophen Onset
15 minutes and lasts up to 3 hrs
Acetaminophen Metabolism
Primary hepatic metabilism
Acetaminophen Toxic Dose
Little as 4g daily. Leads to hepatic cell necrosis.
Adenosine Class
Antiarrhythmic
Adenosine Action
Slows conduction through AV node, interrupting re-entry pathways through the AV, allowing normal sinus rhythm to resume.
Causes coronary vasodilation and increased blood flow in normal coronary arteries with little to no increase in stenotic coronary arteries.
Adenosine Onset
Rapid
Adenosine Half-Life
<10 s
Adenosine Metabolism
Blood and tissue
Amiodarone Class
Antiarrhythmic (Class I, II, III, and IV)
Amiodarone Action
Blocks sodium channels, lengthening cardiac potential. Slows cardiac conduction through the AV node. Antisympathetic action and negative inotropic effects in cardiac nodal tissue.
Amiodarone Onset
15 minutes
Amiodarone Time to Peak
1 to 4 hours
Amiodarone Duration
3-6 hours
