Drug Distribution Flashcards
1
Q
List some factors which determine drug distribution.
A
Plasma protein binding Tissue perfusion Membrane characteristics Transport mechanisms Diseases Interactions with other drugs Elimination
2
Q
Give an account of plasma protein binding in relation to drug distribution.
A
Some drugs bind to proteins in the plasma such as albumin or phenytoin. Only unbound drugs are active. Binding is reversible. Amount of bound drug can be changed by: -Renal failure -Hypoalbuminaemia -Other drugs -Pregnancy
3
Q
What is the primary organ for drug excretion?
A
Kidneys.
