Special Considerations

  • Ondansetron is generally given to patients undergoing Chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy to treat the nausea and vomiting.
  • Note: for children, it does not appear to be a drug of choice to treat nausea and vomiting.
  • Dose-dependent  QT  prolongation
  • Avoid in patient with congenital long QT syndrome
  • ECG monitoring recommended in patient who have electrolyte abnormalities, congestive heart failure (CHF) or bradycardia arrhythmias, or who are also receiving other medications that cause QT prolongation.
