Dressings Simple Flashcards
Transparent films
clear, adhesive, semipermeable membrane
for: stage 1 and 2 pressure ulcers, autolytic debridement, skin donor sites, cover for hydrophilic powder/paste and hydrogels
not for: fragile skin, infected wounds, copious drainage, tracts
Hydrocolloids
adhesive wafers containing hydroactive/absorptive particles that interact with wound exudate to form a gelatinous mass
for: partial thickness wounds, autolytic debridement, mild exudate
not for: heavy exudate, sinus tracts, infection, exposed bone/tendon, fragile skin
Hydrogels
water or glycerine based gels
for: partial and full thickness wounds, necrosis, slough, burns
not for: dry eschar, no exudate
Alginates
soft, absorbant, non-woven dressings derived from seaweed
for: moderate to large exudate, combo exudate and necrosis, infected and non-infected wounds
not for: dry or lightly exudating wounds
Gauze
made of cotton or synthetic fabric that is absorptive and permeable to water and oxygen
for: exudative wounds, dead space, tunneling, sinus tracts, wounds with exudate and necrotic tissue
Wet to dry gauze
for: mechanical debridement of necrotic tissue and slough
Continuous dry gauze
for: heavily exudating wounds
Continuous moist gauze
for: protection of clean wounds, autolytic debridement of slough or eschar, delivery of topical needs
