Dr. Sarko's Neuro Lab VI Flashcards
Septal Nuclei afferents
Fornix, from hippocampus
Stria terminalis, ventral amygdalofugal pathway
Septal nuclei efferents
Hippocampus (cholinergic, via fornix)
Hypothalamus parasympathetic centers and midbrain (via medial forebrain bundle)
Habenula of thalamus (via stria terminalis, which then sends signal about pleasure to the ventral tegmental area via the fasciculus retroflexus)
Septal Nuclei function/lesion
Functions in pleasure
Without it, sham rage occurs
Amygdala Afferents
Hypothalamus (via ST & VAF)
Septal Nuclei (via ST)
Thalamus (via VAF)
Anterior cingulate (via VAF)
Amygdala Efferents
Amygdala Efferents are reciprocal to it’s afferents
Some project directly to the hippocampus and cortical areas
Amygdala function and lesion
Involved in fear and autonomic functions. Without it, fearlessness or absence of emotional responses would occur
Nucleus Accumbens Afferents
Ventral Tegmental Area (via MFB)
Nucleus Accumbens Efferents
Pre-frontal cortex
Nucleus accumbens Function and Lesion
Functions in reward, motivation and satisfaction.
Amotivation and anhedonia may occur without it
