Dr. May Histology Flashcards
1
Q
A
Seminiferous tubules
2
Q
seminiferous tubules?
A
- Fxn:
- provide duct for sperm leaving testis to epididymis
- Lots of tubes
- spermatocytes-inside tube
- Spermatagonia
- border of tube
- Sertoli cells
- Leydig/Interstitial cells
3
Q
Sertoli Cells
A
- Found in Seminiferous tubules
- Support and noursih developing spermatozoa
- make androgen binding protein (ABP) to hold testosterone nearby
4
Q
Leydig Cells
A
- Found in seminiferous tubules
- b/w tubes
- Bind to LH
- secrete testosterone (male sex hormone)
5
Q
Identify total structure
A
Seminiferous tubules
6
Q
What is the middle arrow referring to?
A
Spermatogonia in Seminiferous tubule
7
Q
What is the bottom arrow referring to?
A
Spermatocytes in seminiferous tubule
8
Q
Identify structure in left field of view
A
sertoli cells
9
Q
Identify structure in the center field of view?
A
Leydig cells in seminiferous tubules
(aka interstitium cells)
10
Q
What is the arrow referring to?
A
Leydig cells of seminiferous tubule

Q
Efferent ductule: Histo
A
- Scalloped!
- Epididymis has stereocilia in lUmen!
- Tall ciliated columnar or low cuboidal epithelium
- Low cuboidal cells-absorb testicular fluid
- Cilia-move sperm
13
Q
Identify
A
Efferent Duct
- scalloped
- no stereocilia (epididymis)
14
Q
Epididymis
A
- 3 parts:
- Head
- Body
- Tail
- Pseudostratified columnar epithelium
- STEREOCILIA
- so not eferent duct
- Circular smooth muscle
- might have bullet shaped heads in lumen

Vas Deferens
thick layer of smooth muscle (3 layers)

Q
Vas Deferens: Histo
A
- Pseudostratified columnar epithelium + Thick SM layer
- 3 layers
- outer=longitduintal SM
- middle=circular SM
- inner=longitudinal SM
