Dr. Khan 1A Bones of Lower Limb Flashcards
Hip bone
Name the parts of the Hip bone
8.5.6
Name the parts of the ilium
The posterior portion, known as the iliac tuberosity, is elevated and rough, for the attachment of the posterior sacroiliac ligaments and for the origins of the Sacrospinalis and Multifidus muscles. Inferiorly there is a smooth Ear like area called –Auriclular surface for articulation with sacrum
Name bones of the pubis
Name the parts of the ischium
8.5.6
Line of body weight in standing vs sitting
In standing-Intact rigid bony pelvis transmits body weight through acetabulum of hip bone to lower limb
In sitting- body weight transmitted to ischial tuberosities and legs are free to rest.
What is anatomical positioning of the femur.
**What is the femoral angle of inclination
Abnormally decreased angle Usually less than 120º –Coxa Vara
Normal angle b/w Neck Shaft of Femur is 125º (Range 125-135º degrees)
Abnormally increased angle beyond >140º is-Coxa Valga
What is this x-ray image of?
coxa valga
Name the proximal parts of the femur
8.5.6
What are the 3 surfaces of the greater trochanter
Border-Superior
Surfaces are:
Medial – Trochanteric Fossa
Anterior –Gluteus minimus
Lateral- Gluteus medius
What are the posterior features of the shaft of the femur?
What is the distal end feature of the femur
****What are the femur fractures?
Two type
Intracapsular - Transcervical –
Extracapsular :
Intertrochanteric and Subtrochanteric:
Shaft : Spiral fracture at around the middle of the Shaft where it is narrowest
What are the parts of the tibia
