downward dog Flashcards
What’s happening at joints
Knee: flexed, extends
hip: flexed
shoulder: flexed
trunk: extending, flexing
wrist + ankle are isometrically extended
downdog: shoulder + knee muscles lengthen eccentrically, hip flexors shorten concentrically
Peak flexion of hip
estimate: 105 degrees
kinovea: mid axillary line, greater trochanter, lateral epicondyle of femur
Prime movers
hamstrings flexing knee
rectus femoris extending knee + flexing hip in upwards phase
iliacus + psoas major flexing hip
deltoid + pectoralis major flexing shoulder
erector spinae extending trunk
rectus abdominis flexing trunk a little
gastrocnemius flexing knee + plantarflexing foot
form
sternocleidomastoid flexing head
spenius capitis + erector spinae extending neck
rotator cuffs stabilising shoulder joint
Serratus anterior protracting shoulder
abdominals
multifidus stabilising spine
FDL, FHL, tibialis posterior, soleus, gastrocnemius plantarflexing foot
deltoid
origin: lateral 1/3 clavicle, acromion, spine of scapula
insertion: deltoid tuberosity of humerus
range: mid > inner > mid
Flexes + medially rotates arm at shoulder as arm moves from 90 degree flexion to more flexion
