Briefly discuss the typical pattern of sleep

A
  1. REM sleep is increasing throughout the night
  2. NREM sleep is decreasing throughout the night
  3. A cycle of sleep is about 90 minutes
  4. We experience 4-5 cycles per night
  5. A typical cycle would look like
    Stage 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, REM
  6. REM is replacing stage 1 NREM in the first cycle
  7. Stage 3 and 4 NREM do not occur later in the night
