Acute localised - hot flannel oral analgesics - if referral criterial is met then anti biotics needed - wide spread information of pinna discharge unsuccessful treatment impaired hearing

A

Inbuprofen - 150mg 3 times a day

80% get better in 3 days

Ear wax

A

Olive oil drops - 2/3 drops into the ear and gently massage. Twice a day for 7 days

Otex - upto 5 drops into ear for 3/4 days

Warming drops may help. Lie on side with infected ear facing up. Insert drops and stay on side for 5 mins

Conjunctivitis

A

Viral - self limiting so nothing - hygiene

Allergic - sodium cromoglicate - instil 2 drops into both eyes when required

Bacterial - brolene - 1/2 drops into affected eye 4 times a day - no improvement in 2 days see Gp

Chloramphenicol - 1 drop every 2 hours for 48H then every 4 hours for next 3 days - course is 5 days - no improvement then see Gp

Bulk - isapghula - 1 sachet mixed with water morning and evening after meals

Osmotic - lactulose

Suppository - immediate -

fluids / increase dietary fibre for example whole grain / wheat - weetabix and fruit and veg- avoid sedentary lifestyle

Loperamide - 2X2mg capsules immediately followed by 1 capsule after every loose movement - max 6

Dioralyte - 1 sachet into 200 ml water - 5 sachets a day for 3/4 days

Anaesthetic - lidocaine / benzocaine - germoloids - at least twice a day after each bowel movement )3-4 hours

Anusol - apply at morning and night and preferably after each bowel movement - wash hands after doing so
