Benzoyl peroxide dose
Wash face first
Apply thinly to affected area twice a day
6-8 weeks

Eczema
Emollients- apply as regular as possible
Topical corticosteroids - hydrocortisone (10) clobetasone (12) twice a day for 7 days- not applied to the face anogenital Region, or broken skin
Not at the same time as emollients
Tinea
Imidazole - clotrimazole - 4 weeks - 2/3 times a day
Terbinafine (16+) once daily for a week
Otitis externa
Acute localised - hot flannel oral analgesics - if referral criterial is met then anti biotics needed - wide spread information of pinna discharge unsuccessful treatment impaired hearing
Actuate diffuse - earcalm - acetic acid
Otitis media
Analgesics - calpol - 250mg every 4-6 hours
Inbuprofen - 150mg 3 times a day
80% get better in 3 days
Ear wax
Olive oil drops - 2/3 drops into the ear and gently massage. Twice a day for 7 days
Otex - upto 5 drops into ear for 3/4 days
Warming drops may help. Lie on side with infected ear facing up. Insert drops and stay on side for 5 mins
Conjunctivitis
Viral - self limiting so nothing - hygiene
Allergic - sodium cromoglicate - instil 2 drops into both eyes when required
Bacterial - brolene - 1/2 drops into affected eye 4 times a day - no improvement in 2 days see Gp
Chloramphenicol - 1 drop every 2 hours for 48H then every 4 hours for next 3 days - course is 5 days - no improvement then see Gp
Dry eye
Hypermellose - 1/2 drops into eyes and blink 2/3 times when required
Lacrilube - into eye and blink when required
Cold
Adequate fluids
Steam inhalants - add menthol and eucalyptus oil / vicks vapour rub
Analgesics - paracetamol / ibuprofen
Decongestants - Sudafed- 1 tab every 4-6 hours
Sore throat
So many to chose from - ask patient preference
Dry cough
Pholcodeine - 5-10ml every 4 hours

Chesty cough

Vicks vapour rub

Sinusitis
Sinutab- 2 tabs every 4-6 hours
Hay fever
Sodium cromoglicate - tilt head back - squeeze 1/2 drops into lower lid and blink QDS
Piriton - 1 tab every 4/6 hours max 6 a day
Loratadine - 1 tab daily
Beconase - 18+ nasal spray
Insomnia
Diphenhydramine - nytol - take one 20 mins before going to bed
Sominex- one 1 hour after failing to sleep
Sleepy hygiene
Motion sickness
Hyoscine - joyrides - 1 tab 20 mins before journey starts - 4 in 24 hours
Cystitis
Paracetamol - 2 every 4 hours max 8
Cymalon- 1 sachet and 200ml of water three times a day for 2 days
Large fluid intake Sex trigger Wipe front to back Empty bladder fully Water based lube
Thrush
Fluconazole 150mg - 1 capsule
Clotrimazole 2% cream - 2/3 tines to the affected area
10% intravenous cream - using prefilled applicator at night
500mg pessaries - into vagina at night
Dysmenorrhoea
Naproxen 250mg - 2 tabs on first day - another 6-8 hours later if no better
Ibuprofen - 1-2 tabs every 4-6 hours
Buscopan - 2 4 times a day
Heavy period
Tranexamic acid - 2 tabs three times a day for 4 days
Peads fever

Hedrin- lotion - leave on for 8 hours ensuring you cover whole scalp- repeat 7 days later

Simeticone - infacol - 1 dropper full before feeds.
Oral thrush
Daktarin
4-24 months - 1.25ml QDS
2+- 2.5ml QDS
Chicken pox
Antipyretics - paracetamol - 4-6 10 ml 4 times a day -
2-4 7.5ml QDS
6-24 months - 5ml
3 months - 2.5ml
Calmamine lotion - apply with a pad of cotton wool when required
Piriton - 1+
Ulcers
Local analgesics - bonjela - apply every 3 hours
Anbesol- every 3 hours
Mouthwash - chlorhexidine- 10 ml bd for 1 min
Cold sores
Antiviral - 5 times a day for 4 days
Heart burn
Alginates - gavisocon double action
Tabs - 2-4 tabs after meals and at night QDS
Solution - 10-20ml after meals and at bed QDS
Zantac - 1 tab, 2nd 1 hour later
Constipation
Stimulant laxative - senna - 2 tabs at night
Bulk - isapghula - 1 sachet mixed with water morning and evening after meals
Osmotic - lactulose
Suppository - immediate -
fluids / increase dietary fibre for example whole grain / wheat - weetabix and fruit and veg- avoid sedentary lifestyle
Diarrhoea
Loperamide - 2X2mg capsules immediately followed by 1 capsule after every loose movement - max 6
Dioralyte - 1 sachet into 200 ml water - 5 sachets a day for 3/4 days
Haemorrhoids
Anaesthetic - lidocaine / benzocaine - germoloids - at least twice a day after each bowel movement )3-4 hours
Anusol - apply at morning and night and preferably after each bowel movement - wash hands after doing so
IBS
Buscopan IBS - 1 three times a day
Colpermin- 1 three times a day
Headache
Paracetamol - 2 tabs every four hours
Migraine
Migraleave - 2 pink tabs as soon as symptoms appear - no more than 2 in 24 hours for 3 days
Imigran - 1 tab - 2nd no less than 2h
Buccasteam M - 1/2 tabs twice a day - dissolve
Sprains / strains
Paracetamol / ibuprofen oral or gel - theee times a day
