What is a D.O.P.?
In a sentence, it is the thing that is being acted upon?
ex. Manuel tells me a story. A story is the DOP, because it is the thing being told to me.
What is an I.O.P.?
In a sentence, it is the individual who is being acted at/to whom?
ex. Manuel tells me a story. I am the IOP, because I am the person being told/It’s happening to me.
In the sentence “He sells her the phone”, what is the DOP and the IOP?
DOP = The phone
IOP = Her
What are the DOP pronouns?
me, te, lo/la, nos, los/las
What are the IOP pronouns?
(to, for)
me, te, le, nos, les.
What is the IOP in “I buy him the food”? What is the conjugated sentence?
Him. So, the conjugated sentence is “Le compro la comida”.
What is the IOP in “I buy her the food”? What is the conjugated sentence?
Her. So, the conjugated sentence is “Le compro la comida”.
What is the IOP in “He tells me”? What is the conjugated sentence?
He. So, the conjugated sentence is “Él me dice”.
What is the IOP in “He writes me every week”? What is the conjugated sentence?
Me. So, the conjugated sentence is “Él me escribe cada semana”.
What is the IOP in “I write him/her/you”? What is the conjugated sentence?
him/her/you. So, the conjugated sentence is “Le escribo”. However, we should emphasize afterwards, what party we mean.
“I write to manuel.”
Le escribo a manuel.
“I write to him.”

“He loves me.”

IOP agree with what parts of the corresponding nouns?
the number, but not gender, of the corresponding nouns.
“Roberto lends Luisa 100 pesos.”

How do you provide IOP emphasis and clarity?
At the end of the sentence, attach a “a + [pronoun/noun]”.
ex. Yo le compro un abrigo a él.
“She’s describing a book to Juan.”
Ella le describe un libro a Juan.
“They speak very clearly to the customers.”
Ellos les hablan muy claro a los clientes.
Where does the IOP go, in the sentence?
Before the conjugated form of the verb.
ie. Martín me compra un regalo.
Where does the IOP go, in the sentence, if there is a negation/negative?
Before the conjugated form of the verb, after the “no”.
ie. Eva no me escribe cartas.
In a sentence with a conjugated and unconjugated form, in order, where do you stick the IOP?
Stick it on the end, or before the conj. version.
ie. Él no te quiere pagar or Él no quiere pagarte.
“I’m telling you the truth.”
Te digo la verdad.
“I don’t tell lies to my parents”
No les digo mentiras a mis padres.
“They give me a party every year”
Me dan una fiesta cada año.
“I’m going to give her advice.”
