What is Domestic Abuse?

A

Any incident or patterns of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.

This can be anything like:
Physical, emotional, psychological, financial, sexual etc

A

  • Negative feelings towards potential rescuers
  • Develops after 4 days of captivity

What is the DASH model?

A

Domestic Abuse, stalking and harassment (model)

Model that helps front line staff identify high risk domestic abuse, stalking, harassment and honour based abuse.

Helps identify dangerous and serial perps

Decide which cases should be referred to MARAC and what other support may be required

What are the three categories for a PPN?

A

Standard - evidence does not indicate serious harm

Medium - identifiable indicators of risk or serious harm. Potential to happen

High - identifiable indicators of risk of serious harm. Could happen at any time

A

What is Domestic Violence Disclosure scheme (clares law)?

A

Clare wood murdered in 2009 by her partner who had a history of violence against women.

Clares father campaigned for information to be disclosed to potential victims about the history of a partner.

Have the right to ask police about your partner if In an intimate relationship with them.

What are DVPNS and DVPOS?

A

Protection that can be put in place by police following an incident.
Gives victim breathing room to consider options as perp must stay away from victim.

Domestic Violence Protection Notice - issued by place and must be heard by magistrates in court within 48 hours.

Needs to be authorised by super intendant or above

Victimless process

Domestic Violence Protection Order - applies for by police at court so that prohibitions are extended for a period between 14-28 days.
