any form of:
physical, verbal, sexual, psychological or financial abuse which might amount to criminal conduct and which takes place within the context of a relationship

what is coercive control?
pattern of behaviour used to gain & maintain power + control over another individual in a relationship,
tactics used to achieve this: isolation, intimidation, manipulation, and/or physical/psychological abuse
what can happen to children who experience domestic abuse that arent physically harmed?
- anxiety/depression
- sleeping issues & nightmares
- behavioural issues
- lowered sense of self-worth, feelings of guilt
- health harming behaviours
- truancy/skiving school
what is are ACE’s and give examples?

what happens if children experience more ACE’s?
are higher risk of having a range of medical problems, binge drinking, involved in violence
what are behavioural signs that could help a clinician recognise abuse?
- low self-esteem
- victims may appear fearful, anxious or sad
- constant texting by a partner whilst at the appointment
- alcohol
- the partner may do all the talking if they are at the appointment
- partner may insist on female clinician
