Domain 7 - Crisis Management Flashcards
What type of support does incident command support and where?
tactical (Emergency Operations Center)
What type of support does the crisis management team support and where?
strategic (Crisis Management Center)
What is Incident Command System (big picture)
a command and control mechanism used by many public safety agencies across the globe
If an incident requires a public safety response, who is the incident commander?
the senior member of the responding agency (collaborative approach if multiple - unified command)
How is the crisis management team broken up?
operational teams (by function), tactical teams (by physical location), or strategic teams (management/executives)
what is a foreign exchange (FX) line?
phone line separate from the local phone office that serves the facility due to call volume
what are the most predominant terrorist activities
Bombing(main, unattended item most common) and kidnapping
what are the 4 elements required for a bombing
motive, material, knowledge, and opportunity
what are the 5 R’s of bomb threat evaluation
Receive, Record, Report, Review, Respond
what is a mechanical explosion?
the result of a buildup of heat and pressure inside a vesse
What is a chemical explosion?
relies on a chemical composition whose bonds can be broken easily, causing the material to become a gas very quickly. A gas occupies a greater volume than the original solid or liquid explosive
what is the difference between high and low explosives?
their velocity of detonation (VoD), which is the speed of the chemical change over a linear distance
Low:suitable for propelling and pushing; include propellants (e.g., gunpowders), pyrotechnic compositions, expelling charges for line throwers, and special effects systems
High: used for shattering and moving greater loads; includes TNT (6900); generate a detonation wave where the chemical change occurs without progressing through the burn stage; rather, the material is converted into a gas at a rate greater than 4,500 meters (14,700 ft.) per second
what do explosive main charges require to detonate?
an igniter or detonator that is easy to inititiate via shock, friction, or heat and an intermediary charge to increase the effect o the detonator or igniter
what are the three primary products of an explosion
blast, fragmentation, and heat
What comes immediately after the blast wave of an explosion?
a low-pressure area from which the compressed air was drawn. This low-pressure area (sometimes incorrectly called a vacuum) further damages structures weakened by the blast wave by causing them to stress in the opposite direction
