Who is responsible for construction means and methods according to available standardized general conditions?
The contractor is responsible for construction means and methods for all delivery methods except for Design
-Build, in which the design-builder is responsible
What meetings are typically conducted during construction and where are the requirements for meetings located?
Meetings are specified in Division 01 and the types of
meetings include progress meetings, contractor/
subcontractor meetings, preinstallation meetings,
closeout meetings, owner closeout meeting, and other
meetings as needed
What is the purpose of submittals?
Submittals demonstrate how the contractor proposes to conform to the information given and the design concept expressed in the contract documents.
What is the process for preparing, reviewing, and processing submittals?
Submittals are usually prepared and assembled by
manufacturers, suppliers, fabricators, and subcontractors, reviewed and approved by the
contractor and finally submitted to the architect/engineer for review.
Only those submittals requested by the contract
documents should be submitted and they should comply with the requirements of Division 01.
What is the difference between observe and inspect?
Observe
Is a less focused view of what is being looked at and
implies that simply noticing or seeing is enough
Inspect
To critically evaluate what is in place and implies a more careful observation
What are the definitions of quality assurance and
quality control as they apply to construction activities?
Quality Assurance
Procedures or guarding against construction
defects and deviations from the ontract documents before and during the execution of the work

Procedures for valuating completed activities and elements of work for conformance with contract
requirements
What are the two types of contract modifications?
- Those that require to the contract sum/price and/or time (Requires a change order)
- Those that do not require change to contract sum/price and time (called minor changes)
What is the schedule of values?
An itemization of the costs of the work apportioned across various divisions of work
What is the definition of a claim and what is an unresolved claim called?
- A claim is an assertion of a right under the contract
- An unresolved claim is called a dispute
What is the purpose of project closeout?
To provide an orderly transfer of the completed project from the contractor to the owner.
What is the definition of substantial completion?
When the project, or a portion of the project, is sufficiently complete to permit the owner to use it for
its intended purpose
