LEA= Language Experience Approach
What students know, they can talk about; what students can talk about, they can write about; what students can write about they can read.
KWL
A chart used to activate students background knowledge:
K-what do you know?
W-what would you like to learn?
L-What have you learned?
QAR System
Question-Answer Relationship helps students to understand the different type of questions. Strategy helps sts to understand that they must first consider the question before developing an answer./ Question classification and answer verification.
Four Types of QAR System
- Right there: the answer to the question is in the text in a single identifiable sentence. (literal)
- Think and Search: the answer is in the text but it is in two different parts of the text.(literal)
- Author and you: the answer is not in the text. Sts need to think about what they already know and what the author said and put it together.(inferential or evaluative)
- On my own: the answer is not in the story. You can answer the question without reading the story. (inferential or evaluative)
What is the SQ3R reading technique?
Survey - survey the chapter: titles, subtitles, captions, bold type
Question - write 2-3 questions you think the chapter will answer
Read - look for answers to the questions
Recite - state aloud key points
Review - periodically review what was learned, using written questions and answers as a guide

Analysis of Oral and Written responses-Students should make connections and see the relationship between the literature they read and each of the following:
Text-to-Self-Do children, in their oral and written responses ,make connections between the books they are reading and their own lives?
Text-to-Text-Teachers should know if their students are able to see the relationship between a book they are reading and other books.
