A non-profit may have important donor data stored, including debit card numbers, credit card numbers, social security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. The protection of donor information is not mandated by federal law, it is the responsibility of each nonprofit to secure its own donor information.

A

A project grant: given to states that award them for scientific or educational research. Example, states that applied had to demonstrate they could hire and retain outstanding educators, dramatically improve student achievement, boost state standards, etc.

Pell grants are considered federal project grants

Example: federal research grant awarded to two computer scientists to develop algorithm for new search engine that became Google.

Explain why market research is important to a nonprofits fundraising success. Discuss the use of focus groups for market research.

A

Organizations opinion might be based on internal lore and not reflect the real view from the public’s perspective.

Focus groups allow you to obtain qualitative information that can reveal opinions that were wrong or merely unknown. They can guide nonprofit to creating messages that can boost support.

A

Creating a plan for successfully engaging a donor prospect is called moves management. The process of bringing a donor from medium awareness to status of major donor. Engagement opportunities:
- Invitations to hear a speaker
- Tour of a major medical facility or school
- Invitation to symphony concert or art gallery opening
The goal of every invitation is to show the donor the best examples of the nonprofits accomplishments
