gilborn did a study on racism and schooling looked at authority guidlines and staff meeting to get an offical picture of the racism at schools which is public documentation

laslett was doing a study of pre-industrial england families used historical documents to find how the nuclear family was the main form of family at the time
what did scott argue?
that one problem with secondary sources was there beliavabiility and sincerity of the author of the documents. like in thomas and znanieki’s research the writers could have lied to there families so they dont worry
how do documents have high validity?
as they are qualitative dat they offer a detailed insight into the topic of research.
how can documents be the only source of information for certain research?
public and personal documents may be the only source of information avalible to the researcher for example dealing with things in the past
how are documents cheap and quick ?
because the researcher does not need to verify and check the data because its a secondary source potentally making it quicker

they had to pay for 700+ of the personal letters to do thier research
